Land Description

For the comprehensive refurb of the Jurassic Park land at Universal's Islands of Adventure, our team at Universal Creative wanted to explore the possibilities of combining the films in the Jurassic Park Universe into one cohesive area. With the huge box-office success of Jurassic World, $1.62 Billion and counting, we decided on incoporating the positive aspects of the film with the original nostalgia of Jurassic Park.

In order to accomplish this task, we knew that since the timeline of the films were decades apart, we'd have to create our own unique timeline in order to incorporate all the films. In Jurassic World (2015), the park has been open for 10 years, which would put its opening date sometime around 2005. And that's where the guests come in. When you enter our Jurassic World, you'll be acting as the first guests of the park, and experiencing everything with a unique spin, yet still remaining loyal to the source material.

We decided to make the land more of a "theme park" within a theme park, designing the land as if you are traveling to Isla Nublar and becoming completely immersed in the zoological dinosaur island. Which was why one of the most significant investments in the refurb was to design the Isla Nublar Mountain range, which rises up to 90 feet tall at its highest point, and arcs 180 degrees around the refurbed Jurassic River Adventure attraction. We also designed the pathways to be more fluid and guest friendly, as if you're walking down "main street" of Jurassic dinosaur park to a central hub - which is home to the John Hammond Center for Paleo-Genetic Research.
